COMMON STEM CELL & GROWTH FACTOR MYTH DEBUNKED

WHAT ARE STEM CELLS & GROWTH FACTORS?

Stem cells show promise in cosmetic enhancements, with studies indicating their potential to boost collagen and elastin production, leading to reduced wrinkles and sagging skin. Additionally, research suggests that stem cells can expedite wound healing, particularly beneficial post-aesthetic procedures like microneedling and laser resurfacing.

Investigations are ongoing into the potential benefits of stem cells in reducing scar formation, minimizing skin discoloration, treating acne, enhancing skin texture, rejuvenating the skin, and providing anti-aging effects. Although further research is required, the current findings are encouraging.

Did you know that the majority of cells in our body communicate with each other using chemical messenger molecules called growth factors and cytokines? These messenger molecules carry specific coded messages that fit precisely into matching receptors on receiving cells, similar to how a key fits into a lock.

Upon receiving the message, the cell is able to decode and interpret it. Growth factors and cytokines play a crucial role in regulating various cellular activities, including stimulating new cell growth, promoting cellular differentiation, aiding in wound healing, controlling inflammation, and enhancing collagen and elastin production.

This intercellular communication is essential for processes like wound healing and skin rejuvenation, where stem cells release growth factors and cytokines to guide other cells in repair and regeneration tasks.

MYTH: Stem cells in skincare products are derived from human embryos.

It is crucial to emphasize that skincare products utilize stem cells sourced ethically from consenting adult donors, such as bone marrow or adipose tissue, or from ethically obtained tissue samples, rather than from human embryos.

🌻

MYTH: Skincare products with stem cells contain live stem cells.

Stem cell skincare products do not contain live stem cells themselves. Rather, they include the beneficial growth factors and cytokines that stem cells release, referred to as conditioned media. These advantageous molecules guide other cells on how to promote repair and regeneration, offering similar benefits to actual stem cells.

🌻

MYTH: There is a risk of using someone else's stem cells in skincare products.

The stem cells utilized in topical skincare products are considered "cell-free," indicating that they do not contain live stem cells but rather only the substances produced by these cells. As a result, these products do not contain donor DNA, eliminating any potential risks of DNA transmission from the donor, rejection by the recipient, or cross-infection. This makes them a safe choice for skincare products.

🌻

MYTH: Plant stem cells provide the same benefits that human stem cells do.

Plant and human cells have distinct biological characteristics and communicate using different languages. Although plant and non-human stem cells may provide skin benefits like antioxidants, they do not interact with our skin cells in the same manner as human stem cells.
