7 Ways To Banish Your Winter Dry Skin Blues

Article by Tammy.

Winters may be quite welcoming after the dry and scorching summer season. But the cold and windy days make everything around us rather cold and lifeless.

Though we suffer from a world of problems in the cold months, our skin suffers the most. The cold and dry winds, along with the dip in temperatures, can cause our skin to lose moisture and become dull and flaky. That is why there is a need for a change in your skincare routine during the winters.

The most common skincare problem that we face during this season is dryness. The cold weather and the icy winds rob our skin of its moisture. This can result in itchy and flaky skin that can turn into a nightmare for the beauty conscious in you.

The winter months also gives us many reasons to celebrate. With Christmas and New year around the corner, you would surely want to look your best.

If you find that your regular skincare routine isn't sufficient to drive away from the winter woes for your skin, worry not!!! We will undoubtedly be your knight in shining armor.

Here are 7 amazing tips to banish your winter dry skin woes to reveal you’re natural healthy glow.

1. Change your moisturizer-

The first step to take care of your skin in the winter is to ditch your regular moisturizer. It may just not be enough to hydrate your skin in the unforgiving months of the winter. Opt for a creamy one instead. A renewal cream with vitamin E is also effective for treating dry and damaged skin. Natural oils are also your best bet in the winters. Make sure you choose one that suits your skin type. For sensitive skin types, you will have to dilute the natural oils before you use them on your face.

2. Add Vitamin C to your skincare routine-

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that is a must-have ingredient in your skincare routine currently. If you haven’t added it yet, the cold months of the winter are the right time to do so. Vitamin C is known to boost the skin’s natural ability to produce collagen. This not only helps you fight the signs of aging but also helps maintain adequate moisture levels in the skin.

3. Avoid long comforting showers with hot water-

All of us love to indulge long and hot baths that provide a respite from the biting cold. Though they are quite comforting, they rob the essential moisture from your skin, leaving it dry, itchy, and flaky. A shorter bath or a shower with lukewarm water will not be as punishing to your skin. You can include oatmeal in your bath to add a dose of moisture to your skin. Do remember to lather on a thick body lotion right after stepping out of the shower to lock in the moisture. It is the best way to prevent post-bath dryness and keep your skin hydrated.

4. Keep away from alcohol products-

All your efforts to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized can turn void if you are using your regular toner or astringent. Products with alcohol are extremely drying to the skin. They dry up the skin’s natural oils and moisture, turning your skin dry and itchy. Most of the facial toners and astringents contain a high amount of alcohol. If you are constantly suffering from itchy and flaky skin, you might want to skip this part of your skincare routine. Instead, opt for natural toners like rose water for that wonderful winter glow. Also, it is wise to avoid skincare products that are heavily fragranced as it may irritate your dry skin.

5. Use humidifiers indoors-

Most of us like to be at home, wrapped in the warmth and comfort of our favorite blankets. But if you have turned your central heating a bit too much, it may not be a good move, skin-wise. The combination of dry air inside your home and the harsh cold wind outside can be catastrophic for it. To put some moisture back into your skin and also the air around you, you can think about investing in a humidifier. A humidifier works by evaporating water and loading up moisture into your surroundings. This will prevent your skin from over-drying. It will also keep your loved ones and you quite comfortable in the cold months.

6. Indulge in hydrating packs and sheet masks-

Lathering on some moisturizer now and then may not be enough for your skin. If you are fighting with dry skin in spite of your best efforts, it's time to give it some TLC. Intense hydration in the form of packs and masks can do wonders for your skin. Rich masks with super moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid and aloe vera will make your skin soft and supple. These ingredients are known to lock in moisture and sooth and irritation. You can also opt for some DIY face masks with skin-friendly ingredients like avocado or coffee to give your skin that healthy winter flush and glow.

7. Consume healthy fats-

Apart from taking care of your skin from the outside, you need to nourish it from within as well. In winters, try to add healthy fats to your diet. Foods containing Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids like salmon, avocados, olive oil, and nuts will help replenish the skin from within. They will also help you increase your immunity for the harsh winters and improve your resistance towards cold.

Conclusion-

These are some simple skincare tips to keep your skin glowing and moisturized in the cold winters. Do remember to hydrate your body with an adequate amount of water. It helps your skin flush out the toxins easily. Just making a few changes in your diet and skincare routine will help you get happy and healthy skin in no time!

So, go on and be the life of any party you want!
