This month, I want to talk about an important topic: The Fine Line Between Excess and Lack
I chose this subject because, over the past few months, we’ve been seeing more and more cases of people overdoing facial treatments and overusing products. The result? Compromised skin barriers, redness, irritation, and even the appearance of extra fine lines.
The skin is incredibly delicate — and very smart. While treatments can be amazing tools for rejuvenation, going too deep or being too aggressive can cause damage, sometimes even irreversible.
We all want healthy, glowing, youthful skin, but good skin takes time and patience. Unfortunately, patience isn’t always our strong suit, which is why many turn to hot-and-cold lasers, aggressive microneedling, or combinations of treatments all at once.
Now, don’t get me wrong — treatments like microneedling and radiofrequency are excellent when done properly and spaced out.
But not everything should be done at the same time.
Let’s talk specifically about Morpheus8 for a second — you know how I feel about this one! If I could talk you out of it, I would.

Morpheus8 is a radiofrequency microneedling device that, in my opinion, goes way too deep. It can generate too much heat and damage the fat layer under your skin — something you never want to harm. Here’s why:
Your skin has three main layers:
- Epidermis: The outermost layer — your protective barrier.
- Dermis: The middle layer — where blood vessels, nerves, and collagen live.
- Subcutaneous Tissue (Hypodermis): The bottom layer — primarily fat that provides insulation and volume.

When you treat the epidermis (the surface), you can get quick, temporary improvements: think smoother texture, brighter tone. This can be achieved with gentle microneedling, massage techniques, and even certain topical products.
When you reach the dermis (the second layer), treatments like radiofrequency, deeper microneedling, certain massages, and LED light therapies can stimulate collagen production. You may experience a little downtime, but the long-term benefits are real if handled carefully.
However, once you reach the subcutaneous layer, that’s where real caution is needed.
Damaging this fat layer can lead to long-term problems: hollowing, sagging, loss of elasticity — the very things we’re trying to avoid.
What’s tricky is right after an aggressive treatment (like Morpheus8), your skin might look amazing for the first 6–12 months.
That’s because inflammation can temporarily plump the skin and even out your skin tone.
But once the inflammation fades, the damage can start to show:
- More wrinkles
- Thinner skin
- Loss of youthful volume
This is why treatments like Morpheus8 are often recommended once a year — not because they’re building long-term skin health, but because you need time to recover from the trauma caused.
Again, I love microneedling, and I love radiofrequency — just not together and not too deep.
You can achieve beautiful, lasting results without risking damage.
We’re also seeing more people traveling overseas, especially to places like Korea, where “stacking” multiple lasers in one session is trendy.
Please be cautious.
Your skin does not need 4, 5, or 6 lasers in a row.
Recovery times can be brutal, and true skin health comes from balance — not from burning your skin into submission.
Healthy skin care basics matter more than any high-tech treatment:
- Consistent, appropriate treatments
- High-quality products
- Drinking plenty of water
- Eating a balanced diet rich in antioxidants (Q10 is especially wonderful for skin!)
- Protecting your barrier with SPF and gentle care
If you’re ever unsure about a treatment, always ask!
We are here to guide you and help you choose the right path for your unique skin.
Next time you come in, don’t hesitate to talk to your aesthetician about what treatment would really suit your skin’s needs — now, and long term.
Remember:
In skincare, sometimes less really is more.
Consistency, patience, and smart choices are the true secrets to lasting beauty.
